Jenna Wins Prestigious
DROMONA AWARD

Jenna McCorkell has just won the Dromona Sports Award and Most Outstanding Senior Sportsperson by the UST in Belfast tonight April 30 2007.  The Awards Ceremony was opened by Dame Mary Peters, President of the UST. With many dignitaries in attendance including Jayne Torvill and Chris Dean who had taken time out of their hectic schedule - Dancing On Ice Tour to be present and to present the awards to the various winners including Jen.

Jenna had flown in specially for the event from Belgium and with no less than four Olympic Gold medallists in attendance the scene was set.   NIISA was represented by Hon Sec/Grants Liaison Officer Karin Rowlands and many Governing Bodies of the various sports nominated were also in attendance.  This is a major boost for our sport being recognised at such a prestigious awards ceremony, Jenna beat off candidates from Sailing, Boxing, Athletics and Table Tennis with her fourth British Senior title and her outstanding performance at the European Championships this year.
DAME MARY PETERS DBE - ATTENDS NI ICE SKATING C'SHIPS

The NIISA is delighted to announce the attendance on Friday 11th May 2007 of legendary sports star Dame Mary Peters DBE to The NI Open and British Ice Dance Qualifier to present the prizes to our new winners for 2007...A record entry of skaters from all over UK performed over the three days of competition.  Many dignataries including the Mayor and Mayoress of Castlereagh who hosted a reception for Mary representatives of NIISA and Mr Brian Beattie - International Marketing Director - DALE FARM.  Competitiors, parents, coaches and the general public who flocked to DIB over the three days were in attendance indicated the revival of the sport in recent years.  Mary who returned from the Munich Olympic Games in 1972 with the gold medal in the pentathalon has continued giving to sport over the years, through, in particular her associations with the British Olympic Association and of course the Ulster Sports Trust that has supported Ice Skaters at all levels over the years many going onto National and International success.  We are delighted that Mary attended this very special event in our calendar and welcome her and many Ulster Sports Trustees over the three days and thank them for their continued support of our sport...
NI Championships a resounding sucess!

The NI National Open & British Solo Dance Qualifier took place at the week-end at DIB, Belfast.  The NIISA would like to formally thank all our volunteers especially RITA BROWN.  Well done to all our local skaters who performed so well, whether you got a medal or not this time it's the taking part and improving on your last outing that matters...so give yourselves a big pat on the back!
